Job Summary

The Business Advisor (BA), under the supervision of the Director of the Business Support Unit, is responsible for delivering training and development programs for both start-up and existing entrepreneurs. The BA provides confidential, one-on-one coaching in all areas of business operations, ensuring that agreed-upon milestones are achieved. This role includes planning, coordinating, and evaluating resources to offer comprehensive training services to the micro, small, and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) community in Turks & Caicos.

Additionally, the BA collaborates with partner agencies to provide technical assistance to new and existing business owners. The BA focuses on capacity building by supporting training workshops and educational initiatives for small businesses. The BA also offers support for the implementation and sustainability of the business incubator and accelerator programs and delivers specialized educational workshops in priority sectors.

Essential Functions  

  1. Develop, promote, coordinate, and deliver training programs on a variety of topics relevant to start-ups and existing entrepreneurs.
  2. Develop and manage a comprehensive annual training plan that includes scheduling, resource allocation, and execution of training activities.
  3. Conduct ongoing training needs analyses and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through various methods to ensure relevance and effectiveness.
  4. Provide confidential, one-on-one training and coaching sessions to small business clients, helping them achieve specific business milestones and improve their operations.
  5. Offer advice and assistance in establishing and maintaining business and financial records in compliance with relevant regulations and standards and provide business counseling either at the Invest TCI office or at the client’s business site.
  6. Utilize the Neoserra Database to accurately document client activity, manage business caseload, and produce necessary reports.
  7. Assist in the ongoing management of business incubator and accelerator programs, ensuring effective implementation and sustainability.
  8. Collaborate with public and private sector stakeholders to achieve the objectives of Invest TCI.
  9. Travel throughout the islands to deliver training services to MSMEs and occasionally work evenings as required.
  10. Contribute to the development and execution of Invest TCI’s strategic plan, and perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Highly customer service oriented.
  2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with small business owners in a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  3. Knowledge of sound, practical business practices of MSME operations.
  4. Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports.
  5. Knowledge of basic business accounting and proficient in Microsoft Office.
  6. Ability to develop and deliver educational programs and/or workshops.
  7. Ability to analyze situations or market needs and communicate these effectively.

Minimum Job Requirements

  1. Completed bachelor’s degree in business administration or Entrepreneurship from an accredited institution.
  2. Minimum of one year’s experience related to the essential functions specified.
  3. Past or current business ownership/management experience.
  4. Experience in counselling and/or advising small businesses.
  5. Small business finance/banking experience is preferred.
  6. Holder of a valid driver’s license and passport.
