  • Post category:News

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos IslandsJanuary 21, 2025Island Organics Artisan Farm (IOAF), an innovative venture owned and operated by Mrs. Arlene Hall, is setting a new benchmark for local entrepreneurship and sustainable development in the Turks and Caicos Islands. What began as a modest home-based business in 2017 has grown into a thriving enterprise with an extensive product line and ambitious plans for the future.

Mrs. Hall, a recipient of Micro Small Medium Enterprise (MSME) programme since 2018, is the visionary behind IOAF. Her journey began with a passion for holistic living and a desire to share the therapeutic benefits of indigenous bush medicine. Drawing inspiration from the cultural traditions of the Turks and Caicos Islands, she has crafted a business that celebrates and preserves the country’s heritage while addressing modern wellness needs.

From Grassroots to Grace Bay: A Story of Growth

A humble endeavour of crafting handmade soaps and promoting them at IGA Gourmet on Saturdays has transformed into a thriving enterprise. A chance encounter with Ms. Alexa Cooper, Vice President of SME, introduced her to the MSME programme, which ultimately paved the way for her business’s growth. Today, the Island Organics operates from a 1,000-square-foot retail space in Salt Mills Plaza, Grace Bay, Providenciales, and has earned a reputation as a local leader in organic bath and body products, pet care items, and therapeutic candles.

The company’s products are now prominently featured in local tourism developments, including ‘turn down services’ at major hotels. Participation in the Tourism Department’s Fish Fry activities has also driven international sales, with products now reaching customers throughout the Caribbean and North America.

A Vision for the Future

The establishment of Island Organics Artisan Farm marks a new chapter for the company. The farm, located in the Bight and Thomas Stubbs settlement, will expand operations to include:

  • Cultivation of indigenous trees, herbs, and spices for use in organic products.
  • Construction of a local processing plant to boost productivity.
  • Development of a warehouse facility for efficient inventory management and shipping.
  • Creation of a manufacturing and assembly line for local tours, enhancing the tourism experience.
  • Construction of classroom space to provide education and awareness for the local community.

On January 6th, 2025, Invest Turks and Caicos Islands and Island Organics reached an important milestone with the signing of a development agreement at the Invest Turks and Caicos Islands headquarters. The event was attended by key stakeholders, including CEO of Invest Turks and Caicos Islands, Mrs. Angela Musgrove; Investment Service Executive, Ms. Sheryl McLaughlin; Legal & Compliance Officer, Ms. Judith Garland; and Owner of Island Organics, Mrs. Arlene Hall. This agreement marks a pivotal step in Island Organics’ journey, solidifying its position as a driving force in sustainable entrepreneurship within the country.

This strategic expansion underscores IOAF’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. The farm’s focus on locally sourced ingredients reduces reliance on chemically based imports, offering healthier alternatives to customers.

Empowering Local Entrepreneurs

Mrs. Hall’s success story highlights the importance of entrepreneurship in driving economic growth. Reflecting on her journey, she emphasized the value of customer feedback, meticulous financial record-keeping, and consistent effort. “Trial and error are essential,” she shared, “and keeping good financial records along with proper inventory management makes a significant difference. Most importantly, consistency is key.”

As the first MSME grant recipient to transition into major developer status, IOAF represents a milestone achievement for the MSME programme. CEO of Invest Turks and Caicos Islands, Mrs. Angela Musgrove, remarked, “Seeing Mrs. Hall’s transition is monumental for the agency. Her success epitomizes what we envision for our MSME programme. It is exciting to witness her growth as she continues to receive aftercare support.”

Economic Impact and Community Engagement

The development of IOAF is expected to deliver significant economic benefits, including job creation and increased incomes. The planned vocational training school at Salt Mills Plaza will further extend the company’s impact by offering manufacturing classes to locals and tourists, enriching the community and enhancing the local tourism product.

With its focus on sustainability, heritage preservation, and community engagement, Island Organics Artisan Farm is poised to become a beacon of entrepreneurial success and innovation in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

End.
